World Series Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined over 50 million spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB reported this is the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American average reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance after 2017.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen various languages.
